If I didn’t know what this was, or where it was taken, I’m not sure I would be able to guess what it was.

Before I get to what this is, it was one of those rare pictures that came out of the camera looking like this, there was almost nothing done to this in Lightroom or Photoshop!

My camera is set to RAW format all the time, it’s how I capture images without exception, as it gives more flexibility in post processing. If you use RAW, you’ll know that most of the time, the images look flat and dull without doing anything to them. Normally, I would tweak white point, black point, highlights and shadows for most images to look anything like you want, or remember.

On very odd occasions, an image comes into Lightroom and needs to correction at all. This was one of those images. The RAW file was as saturated as this, had the same contrast etc etc. The only thing I did to this was added a slight horizontal blur to remove a bit of noise.

So what is it a picture of? It was taken from an aeroplane, just as it was getting dark, while well above the clouds. The cloud was solid right to the horizon. You can see the last of the light on the left hand side of the image and the building darkness on the right.
